Well, work started with a meeting between me, the email administrator, the guy who will be administering the new wireless email software, and the person in Dallas who will distribute the wireless handhelds to users.

I came off pretty well (I think) and when I left, it was with a shiny new Treo 600. :>

It's intensely nifty, but I suspect that we're going to get the no-camera model due to the amount of Government work the company does.

I get to take this one home and get used to the ins and out of it, and we're going to pilot it out to 10 users for about a month before doing a full deploy, and we're getting the XMEE wireless email software some time in the next couple weeks.

It's been busy as hell today, unfortunately, but I look forward to getting to take the shiny through its' paces.

I got to review a Treo 600 for a while last year. Very nice for a Palm, and if you can get used to it, the keyboard is a killer app for fast text entry.

Around Asia, mobile phone cameras are very much the hot fashion item. It will take a while, but I think privacy (and government paranoia) concerns could blunt that with regulation. We'll see, though...it doesn't seem to be on the horizon.

Sucks for you though.

I'm really liking the unit. I think our users are going to get a big kick out of it, especially since it'll be streamlining what had been 3 devices into one fairly slick one.

Camera phones are getting pretty common here, too, but we do work for places with strict enough security as it is that I'm sure they'd frown on bringing the camera enabled PDA in.

How does the keyboard jibe with the stylus? It seems like you'd have a bit of the lack of speed caused by switching from keyboard to mouse, only magnified because of the smallness of the other components. I've long wanted a Treo 90 (Cause I don't like cell phones in general and think they should be a little more separate anyway), but have never had a chance to play with a keyboard based Palm unit.

Honestly? Between the five-way switch, the modified dash buttons, and the keyboard, I've yet to use the stylus. Everything I need to do I can manage completely off the keyboard and buttons.
