Car dealership asked me to come up again about my car and buying it back.

We were there by 10.

Had agreed to a deal by 12.

At 1 they said there was a 'small problem' with financing.

They kept telling us to wait until 4:30, when they told me that it couldn't be done for the payments I wanted despite having agreed to it earlier in the day, because they couldn't get the financing rate needed.

Another day wasted AND I blew getting to the TF in time.

FUCK!

Just out of curiosity, if you're willing to share, what kind of financing rate were you asking for?

Most folks are trying to unload their 2004 stock right now. If you are able to swing a deal like that buyback dealy you were talking about, chances are they won't also cut you a deal on your financing.

But this is something I talk about a lot with folks - haggling over even 1-2 points on an APR is rather pointless. At most that's what, a grand? Far easier to commit to the higher APR the bank or company offers and just milk a grand out of the dealership in rebates or extras. Why squeeze the stone for juice when there's an orange available?

Honestly? Because they came back with a 7.9% APR, which raised a decent payment ($320) to something I wasn't comfortable with. ($415.) I'd already worked the rebates and such as well as I could (and this was a 2005 - No 2004 Vibes were availible with a stickshift, at least at this dealership.)

Whoa. I didn't realize the difference between APRs was so huge. I can see why the deal turned sour.

Yeah. :D

If they'd come back with 4.9 or 5.9, I'd have jumped and said thank you. But a four percent swing to the pip was just a bit too much for me to be comfortable with.
