Hmm.

Saw my dad tonight for his birthday. Cake was had.

Iron Chef America = Good potential, I think. (Better than Iron Chef USA, sure, but so is a bag full of burning dogshit.) I liked that I felt like I saw more of the actual cooking and prep for the majority of the dishes, though Bobby Flay is still not my favorite person out there. I liked that the judges were not afraid to be critical, and that they were quite serious about scoring. (Anyone else notice that even though Flay won, he was still 10 points below theoretical max?)

MegasXLR season 3 opener = Mothafucka yeah. If you didn't watch the episode (or the season 2 cliffhanger) I can't really say more. But...yeah. Oh, hell, yeah.

Pagoda mini-egg rolls = 4 minutes in the deep fryer makes a satisfying dinner for Alex and I after going out and doing a grocery run.

Columbus locals = Hey, we need help unloading Lisa's stuff into the house, especially with Alex's back gimped up. I'm willing to cook dinner for anyone willing to come over and help us get things into the basement. We'll probably also be having a "Clean House" day at some point, too, with similar rewards in exchange for service.

I know that in a few weeks, she'll be living in the same house (OMG), but I miss her again.

I love you, Lisa.

Have I mentioned how happy I am for you? :D

I'd help if I was in Ohio, but, y'know.

[livejournal.com profile] dania_audax calls Flay "Iron Chef Asshat." Not sure who she got that from, but it fits.
What struck me the most was that the single difference in score was one point in presentation. Personallly, I thought that Bayless tried to present a food tour of Mexico by essentially giving a dish from every major culinary region of Mexico -- something that I think even Alton missed on -- while Flay's theme was "be the same but different than Bayless and beat him at his own game in my cocky, asshatty New Yrk-styled way." On that alone I would have upped his presentation score.
But, you can't have an Iron Chef lose on the opening show. And while Bayless is good -- no, make that great -- at what he does, Flay is one of Food Network's Golden Boys and Bayless was doomed to lose.
Next week's show has Roberto Trevino, a nuevo-latino (or as he calls it Latinasian cuisine) expert going up against Mario Batali. That should be very very interesting.

Dude, agreed. Flay is a major cockbiter to the nth degree. Even the Japanese think he's a dork!

Did you notice when he was telling one of his chefs to bust out the hoisin sauce? I bet he was like, "lolz i am using azn ingredients!!!!oneone" I wanted to punch him for it. Right in the kidneys, that bitch.

Bayless is an underrated Mexican dynamo. I love his PBS cooking show.

Totally waiting for Ming Tsai to hand Flay his ass, m'self. :)

And not just because Ming Tsai is a hot piece of ass, either.

Yeah, the plating thing was kinda confusing. I suspect, though, that Flay won that because he did make a better use of colour in his presentations, but I thought the Plantain Chips and banana leafs won that.

Oh, well.

Looking forward to next week, oh, yes.

Ugh. Don't get me started on Bobby Flay. Oh.. oh.. too late.

Bobby Flay doesn't just act like an ass by disrespecting the customs of Japanese chefs. He also jokes about putting meat into food served to vegetarians. "Just don't tell them." Ha Ha Ha. How hilarious! I wonder if he also sneaks pork into food he serves to Jew and Muslims, or peanuts into food for people with major food allergies. Because let me tell you, that would be some high class comedy. Funny funny funny. Fucker.

Happy happy happy about Lisa though! Yay for you!

Bobby Flay is really the "Bad Boy" type chef, which is why he's now on as close as cooking gets to the WWF.

I'm also secretly hoping that this means Morimoto will at some point leap over the kitchen stadium "wall" and hit him with a chair.

Rick Bayless is a hypocritical ass, though I did like dropping 300 corporate bucks at his restaurant.

No, no.

If Flay was a 'bad boy' then that would disgrace the term 'bad boy.' He isn't a 'bad boy.' He's a cock-boy.

The man has a personal letter on the menus at Topolobampo/Frontera Grill talking about his devotion to quality, independent farmers and slow food. He is known for saying that 'Sound food choices emphasize locally grown, seasonally fresh and whole or minimally processed ingredients'

Of course, he has no problem whoring himself out to Burger King at the same time.

ZESTY SENSE TINGLING.

Despite all that, I do feel he makes an amazing rack of lamb.

Oh yeah! I remember. Sante fe chicken baguette, right?

They also had the delectable Rachael Ray pimping the savory mustard sandwich.

That goes pretty well with his little chicken-neck, too.

Buck-aw.
