Sin City was incredible, and the pope is dead.

Ohio goes from driving, blinding, satellites can't get signal down snowstorms to warm rain in about 6 hours, if you let it.

That's about it.

I read that Sin City is so enamored with its faithfulness to the original material that it suffers, as a movie, because of it.

What say YOU?

Having not read the original material in a long time, I didn't feel that way, really, nor did 3 of the people I went with, but 2 of the people who went with us would have agreed with you. One in particular felt it got a bit over-stylized.

again, I don't know the original material, so I have nothing to base it on.

I do wait a few days to let the movie sink in before I reflect on it, not to allow snap judgements to get in the way.

That said... the movie was pretty damn good. The Tarentino-style "time line" (which, as we all know, it's not) was a really nice touch to this movie. At the end (spoiler free?), that's what gels this movie together. I won't say anymore, don't want to kill the plot for those who haven't seen it.

It holds very true to the Dark Horse style that I remember from way back when, very dark, very fatalistic. A great departure from the bubble-gummy movies that are showing up.

One thing I do like about this movie: it's a massive snub to the "Wardrobe malfunction" era that we suddenly found ourselves in. Societal evolution took a massive step backwards since Janet Jackson's little snafu. This movie being number 1, though, should have sent a signal that there are many people who don't care

I thought it kicked much ass. It's dead faithful to the original material, probably much more so than any comic/graphic novel adaptation I've ever seen. I mean, really, WTF do people want? If Rodriguez had deviated to make a "better" movie (whatever that could possibly be) people would have bitched about that, too. You can't please everyone.
