Ah-HAH!

Landon, I told you it'd probably be software based.

Needless to say, in the words of Jimmy McForum, I am turgid with anticipation.

Other random note: Mephistopheles singing "Misery" off of TSO's Beethoven's Last Night sounds remarkably like Mark Hamil in Joker mode. So much so, that I may have to try and find my original slipcase somewhere and figure out if it's him...

Son of other random note: No, it isn't. But damn if it doesn't SOUND like him...

They put on a wicked cool live show.

I never thought he sounded like the Joker, though :)

It's mostly that particular song - as he describes what he's going to do to the girl, how his voice dips and pitches, the general air of malice and violence - that's what gets me.

You know what's sad? I remember the discussion the Xbox backwards compatibility. Or, more importantly, a discussion.

And I can't remember a damn thing that was said. :p

If it flawlessly runs Panzer Dragoon and I can continue to go Red Baron on indescribable organic amorphous ...things (for little discernable reason or payoff), I'll be content.

It sounds like they're going to emulate it like the PS2 does, where major/most games work, but a few that are programmed oddly might not.

Now all they need is to announce and demo Halo 3 some good first-party games...

You were thinking it'd be hardware compatiblity, or very limited compatibility. It's looking to be software emulation, and very possibly expandable emulation at that.

Anything that was produced my MGS or Sega, I expect to run fine from the start. Especially things on the Greatest Hits list.

We now wait for the 3rd coming of Master Chief.

Oh, oh...now I remember. Guess I wasn't clear, then. I was thinking that only hardware should change in the new Xbox, just like a computer. New equipment, new drivers, some OS.

As such, I didn't t hink there should be any emulation at all. That it should just run them without any sort of emulating.

I think they are doing it exactly *not* how the PS2 (and GBA for that matter) did it, which relied heavily on having the old processor on hand. This is either emulation of the games, using tech they acquired from VirtualPC, or recompiling binaries and just using the assets from the DVDs.

That said, the end result may be the same, that the crazily programmed games won't work, but the how is very different.

Proccessor and video card are changing, and because of how consoles like to be coded, that's definently going to mean a new OS and new game programming. See [livejournal.com profile] buschap's explanations.
