Looks like the HAL-5 team perfected the arms to go with the legs.

Strap some armor weave and repulsors on it, give it a sonic sword coming from the forearm, and I'll drive it off the lot today.

Small Steps

Today, it's a compact exoskeletal lifting assister.

Tomorrow: "GET AWAY FROM HER, YOU BITCH!"

The future is now, baby.

Aren't we grabby?

I just want a GIANT CRUSHING CLAW!

Or a pair giant Ice Wave shooting mittens.

I'll hold out for the super missiles.

Yeah, well. Call me when it can fry Mother Brain and then do a gazillion forward flips up an imploding vertical corridor.

Needs a jetpack.

From: [identity profile] bzarcher.livejournal.com
Bah. Rocket boots = far cooler.

Jetpack - actually tested.

Rocket Boots - In Star Trek V.

Therefore,

Jetpack is superior to Rocket Boots.

Iron Man has rocket boots.

That said, Jetpacks are cool. But c'mon. Rocket Boots.

I thought he had heavy boots of lead, which filled his victims full of dread.

Well, yeah, but that was silver age Iron Man. We're so in the 90s.

They look cool, but they wouldn't work, is the problem.

People said that a strength boosting Exoskeleton wouldn't work, either, about 15 years ago.

What we need to do is get a bunch of crazy ass japanese men drunk, make them watch "Rocket Men To the Rescue" a few dozen times, and then lock them in a workshop for a few years and keep throwing parts, Kirin, sushi, and catgirl pillows over the wall.

A disabled person (whom this suit appears intended for) might be unable to use rocket boots; a jetpack could, however carry their weight across the shoulders.

;-)

OK, that's true. But it still won't look as cool.

Won't someone think of the costumed adventurers?

From: [identity profile] dklegman.livejournal.com
There is a costume that goes with rocket boots!

As mentioned above, it's a toupee, a beer gut and a "Go Climb A Rock" t-shirt.

Iron Man, War Machine, Syndrome, Prototype, SuperPatriot, and many other heroes who I'm probably forgetting give you a hearty, "Fuck you, William Fucking Shatner!"

From: [identity profile] nachitor.livejournal.com
Don't forget Astro Boy.

Date: 2005-06-09 04:16 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bzarcher.livejournal.com
Due to the limitations of his programming, Astro Boy is actually incapable of saying the word "Fuck". True story.

Date: 2005-06-09 12:59 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] nachitor.livejournal.com
So he would just angrily say, "You! William Shatner!" It's all good.

Date: 2005-06-09 02:01 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bzarcher.livejournal.com
That's true.

Weren't people USING strength-boosting exoskeletons 10-15 years ago? Waldos? The problem with rocket boots is that they don't provide support for the rest of the body. You'd end up flying along perpendicular to the Earth and just looking like a total knob. All the guys with jetpacks would be flying by and totally laughing at you.

Date: 2005-06-08 11:14 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bzarcher.livejournal.com
At the time, most waldos required about a room's worth of power and equipment - these guys turned it into a self-balancing backpack.

Fucking eliteist jetpackers. Probably go to Abercrombie and Fitch for their Rocket Suits and drink Starbucks all the time.

I'd prefer self-propelled flight, but I'm pretty sure that's impossible.

Date: 2005-06-09 04:17 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bzarcher.livejournal.com
Entirely possible, but if they perfect it, I'm sure it'll be sold at Eddie Bauer.

Fucking Eddie Bower.

My nephew has an Eddie Bower car seat that converts into an Eddie Bower stroller.

What the fuck. He's like -1. What the hell does he care?

About the only good part of this is an early exposure to the concept of Transformers.

If you get a chance, start making the Transformer sound each time they change it around.
