Now, isn't it me, but didn't these guys totally embezzle millions, perhaps BILLIONS of dollars earmarked for rebuilding infrastructure in Iraq, and we're giving them and their 'wholly owned subsidiary KBR' even MORE federal money, on what seems like a pony show bidding process or another a no-bid contract, to go out and rebuild infrastructure again?
Something doesn't seem smart.
Also: More good news about the gentleman who is currently in charge of FEMA operations down there.

Date: 2005-09-04 05:48 am (UTC)It's certainly fishy, but does that constitute a "no-bid" contract? Anyone? It does say "competitive bidding process," which certainly doesn't exclude "considerably rigged" but does sort of allude to *some* kind of bid system being used.

Date: 2005-09-04 07:32 pm (UTC)Although in the man's defense, New Orleans getting pasted isn't exactly a regular occurance during hurricane season. Unlike, say, Florida, where the agencies involved have long experience dealing with. (They probbably also have pre-positioned emergency gear and supplies to work with for places that get hit regularly.)
