If this doesn't scare you, it should.

I fervently hope that something is wrong, there, and that this is NOT the norm for how these people are being treated.

....

I was looking into joining one of the work mission trips during my fall break. This story really worries me.

Go, and take a camera.

Honestly, knowing people I trust are out there with these people would be a great comfort.

Well, the people in the DC Armory seem to be ok. They let them go to the baseball game with the unused tickets on Wednesday, and let one of the families throw out the first pitch. Doesn't sound like people worried that "it could cause a riot".

I'm really glad to hear that.

Who in the name of Eris' sacred golden fucking apple is running that complete and utter Clusterfuck? I know _nothing_ about this sort of thing, and I can probbably do better than this by making it up as I go along.

I'm starting to think a congressional witch-hunt could do some good after all. Especially given that I'm hearing credible reports that the PA Guardsmen who got called down there aren't being utilized for anything.

While this concerns me a bit, I'm a little leery of the report. The site's general tone and subject matter make it a bit iffy for me to believe at face value. Especally in light of the articles posted in the response section and some of the fairly extreme claims put there. I'd want to see some corroborating reports from other sources first.

My most recent post was about this. Except, when I first encountered it it was posted on a different site one whose "core topics" are "conspiracies, aliens, secret government projects, and other alternative subjects."

I suggest taking a look at the comments I received, as well as going to http://bgco.com and taking a look at the most recent articles in the news section:

Governor Asks Falls Creek to Remain on Standby for at Least 5 More Days
News Conferences at Falls Creek Postponed Indefinitely
Falls Creek Operation Put on Standby Status

Those are in reverse chronological order. The BGCO is the group that owns the camp/cabins/whatever. (I'd direct link, but when I tried in [livejournal.com profile] koimistress' post, clicking the links results in an OLE error from the web site.)

At least for now, this facility isn't going to be used. It's not panic time yet, at least I hope not. I actually have serious questions about the credibility of this account, I have to admit.

[livejournal.com profile] ardaniel and I were talking about this earlier today, and my comment then was:

Argh, didn't these people learn anything from watching The X-Files? Being a blatantly paranoid conspiracy theorist doesn't get you anywhere....

Well, it might get you into being an FBI agent, in X-Files world.

But, yeah, hopefully this is just a) biased, b) People being dumb, or c) Really a huge misunderstanding.

I hope.

I can understand the operators wanting to have everything organised in a central warehouse so they know what there is at hand, what resources are available for the refugees. Leaving a pile of Bob the Builder toys in a cabin is a nice, heartwarming thing to do for the donaters, I'm sure, but it's a bit of a pointless gesture when a group of thirty-something labourers is assigned to that cabin.

I didn't let the whole article load so I don't know what sort of capacity the cabins have, but five thousand is the population of a small town. They're going to need the facilities of a small town too. Medical (I would hope the ambulances are just a stopgap measure until proper facilities can be established), safety, and yes, law enforcement to make sure disagreements don't get out of hand. Half of what the article is painting as ominous signs that Falls Creek will be a concentration camp seem totally incongruous. The rest...well, okay, some of this worries me, but not too much. They didn't ask to see the boss, so they didn't get answers from the person making these decisions as to why he/she made those decisions. 'It could cause a riot' sounds like a stock answer that's caught on among the peons.
