So, I was told that the family outing I got roped into this weekend would involve leaving (EARLY) tomorrow morning, a trip down to West Virigina, listen to this timeshare bullshit, go golfing, see the area, come back sometime Saturday.

No, no. We're not leaving until Sunday, now. And apparently we're not going to be back until 6pm. Maybe 8. Maybe later depending on traffic.

My work and my family are my two greatest sources of stress.

So, I ask, can I quit my family and keep working my job?

Of course you can. I did, and it was the best move I've ever made :)

You've got my cell phone number - if you want some advice from an old fart that has successfully divorced her family, give me a call :)

Yeah, what's holding you back from telling them to stick up their ass? Doubt you can do that at work.

I tried pulling the 'Really busy and not that interested' card, and then I got the 'your grandparents aren't going to be here much longer, and this is important to them' played back. I tried just saying no, and was told "We already got the hotel rooms, and your grandparents already left and are expecting you down there."

It's just guilt. Once you call their bluff, they've got nothing to stand on.

Yeeeeah. Time to let your parents know that you're an adult with a life, and that they should stop trying to arrange it for you. Don't let them guilt you, like somebody else already said. Tell them, "Sorry, no, I don't have time right now." Call your grandparents and tell them the same thing. And then enjoy your weekend of (relative (pardon the pun)) peace and quiet.

*hugs* Your first priority is your own sanity.

Wait, they got the hotel rooms and everything BEFORE they asked you to come?? Personally, I would give a big old FU just on principal. (course, I've a bit different situation.) My parents have tried to pull this on me, to a lesser degree, and I stomp on it when I can. Dad wanted to come down and visit for my birthday, but only called like two days beforehand. I could've cleared what little I had planned, but that would've made him think he could continue to do things like that. We rescheduled for the next week.

I would recommend standing your ground on 'NO' and saying you'll make a special trip to visit with your grandparents in a week or two. I think that shuts down everything.

Tell them you have the 'consumption' and that your plague juices would lead to your grandparents untimely death, and that you can't have that.

Or just tell them that you can't go, and that they need to schedule things like that well in advance from now on if they expect you to attend. :)

I'm thinking about it - I wouldn't be quite so frustrated if A) they had told me the truth about it being the entire weekend instead of 2 days and B) they weren't doing this basically to show off this property my grandparents bought, and (I suspect) for the company to try to convince me to invest.
