Going to get Lisa from work tonight, I noticed that the train tracks which run by our house appeared to be on fire.

Getting a closer look as I drove, it looked like specific sections of track had very evenly spaced flames dancing along the rails, then breaking, then more flames, then another dead area, etx.

Is this normal? Nobody seemed to be panicking, and in fact a train went down the adjacent set of tracks without seeming to be concerned. Lisa suggested they might have been trying to de-ice the tracks, but I'm not certain...

that's really bizarre.

Yeah - I can't find any news articles about it, though, the way I'd assume they'd have if it was some sort of accident.

I have never heard of such a thing. Please keep me posted if you find out what it was.

I'll probably post here when I do.

maybe its some lesser demon getting angry and starting fires and the rail service has a 'ignore it and it will go away' attitude to dealing with demons.

I kinda like [livejournal.com profile] avylin's "Ghost Train" theory.

Curious.

Hmm. Was it during a storm? If so, I might wonder if it was St. Elmo's Fire. It does happen inland, and the tracks are metal, so it's not too improbable.

Don't think so (see my most recent post) - they were still on fire 10 hours later. I'd think the St. Elmo's would have faded if that was the case. No storm, either - just some light snow.
