Dear Food Network:

You have subjected me to no end of inane commercials this week as I have attempted to hear the words of the Brown My God.

As a result, I need you to be honest with me about something:

This Simply Delicioso dreck you are trying to pawn off on me. Did you lock Rachael Ray in a tanning booth until she looked "hispanic enough"? Because I swear to god that I've seen this vapid creature before, and she was shrieking about "EVOOOOOO" and triscuits.

Also, unless she's the daughter of a war criminal, I want to know how many latinas you know named Ingrid Hoffman.

Seriously, guys.

This was the best you could do? All the amazing cooking that goes on in hispanic communities around the US and this was the best you could do?

Shame. SHAME!

"DID SHE MENTION SHE'S A PERKY LATINA"

Yeah, somewhere between that and "KILL IT WITH FIRE!"

*shudder*

Seriously, though. Ingrid. Hoffman. WTF.

I have barely come to terms with Rachael Ray; I can't even watch this new one.

If it weren't for Alton and Ina...I'd be sunk!

One of the nice things about Food Network HD is that they don't have that much stuff filmed at HD level, so there's a lot of Good Eats, Barefoot Contessa, and shows where cooking is actually important.

It's really nice.

I'm reminded of Anthony Bourdain's epic and spot-on rant about the hideous state of FoodTV affairs.

I really liked it when it was Chef TV more than Lifestyle-Fancying-Mom TV.

Do they even show old-school Iron Chef anymore? That used to be their gimmick show. I can't remember the last time I caught an episode.

...Then again, I remember when you had to meet people at college to see Iron Chef, back in the days before it was commercially imported. ;)

Sadly, no, it's all Iron Chef America these days. Which isn't bad as long as Batali or Morimoto are cooking. But it's not the original.

Man, I remember when Mario Batali had something like three or four shows on a day. What happened to that time?

1) Lots of new restaurants.

2) They realized that if he was left in a position of power, he'd crush them all.

Well, shoot, you don't want them to have to show actual Hispanics on TV exhibiting upscale skills, do you?

After all, they might start thinking they have value.
