OK, so "I wanna run out to Officemax and get some DVD blanks" and maybe lunch turned into a full on grocery trip. Doh! Sorry, [livejournal.com profile] ardaniel. Grab me if you see me and want to take a swing anyhow.

Meanwhile, while we were out, OfficeMax had several really nice desk chairs on sale, so I decided it's time to upgrade. (I've had this one since....Sophomore year at Wooster, I think? At least 7 years...that's pretty good for a chair I got at Wal-Mart for $30.)

There were two leather ones I -really- liked, but if I'm paying more than $100 for a desk chair, I can't do leather. Onyx still has claws, and still likes sitting on top of my desk chair way too much. (As it is, it turned out to be on sale so I only paid about $50, but still...) I settled on a very comfortable cloth one that the box informs me is a "Flux +II"

I'm trying to figure out if the bonus affects my stats when attempting soldering, or for casting dimensional magic.

Or alternately, it might give you a bonus to playing Fluxx.

I considered that, but I'm not sure it's such an impressive chair as to add two to my hand size.

Dimensional SCIENCE. No question.

Silly mages have to stand upright and mutter eldritch invocations. A SCIENTIST is, however, seated comfortably at the control panel of his assorted devices.

Man has a point there.

Standing is often ergonomically better for mad science. Sitting enourages laziness and inattentiveness, while standing promotes alertness and quick action. It demonstrates and promotes command of the situation.

...Besides, I've never seen Dr. Frankenstein throwing the switch from his chair.

How archiacly Victorian of him.

Such posturing is of course essential when playing to the masses in public. But in the privacy of one's lab?

This is the future, man. The FUTURE!

Do you want the bad news?

According to Diane, who buys desk chairs in bulk, a professional quality desk chair costs about $300. And up. Of course they're adjustable out the ying-yang and you probably will never have to buy another, but $100 buys just another cheap chair.

I felt the same way.

Not shocking - I actually have a "nice" desk chair at work - an Aeron that according to the shipping label that was on it when they replaced the chairs in our building, cost $350. It's insanely flexible...but I don't -need- that insanity that badly at home. :D
