After a day of helping Scott with some shopping, watching some of S4 of Dr. Who, driving around a bit, and a very awesome dinner and drinks with Sanford, Scott, Alex, and Dave, we charged blindly into Speed Racer.

My God. The Colours. THE COLOURS!

Kids will LOVE this movie.

It's incredibly stylized and just balls out, full throttle, lightspeed ahead from the first frame to the last. It's bright colours, way-too-fast-to-follow action, and lightning quick cuts, with a plot that...well, it's not deep, but it feels just like a big episode of the show.

Don't see it expecting an Oscar winning movie. (Well, OK, it probably -will- win some VFX Oscars.) Expect to be strapped into a neon rollercoaster, and for one hell of a big screen experience.

99.9 percent chance of avoiding like death on DVD or TV unless you own a home theatre setup that includes bucket chairs and popcorn machine. It'd lose too much.

I had a coworker pondering whether or not to see it, until I told him about the visuals. And the colours! The COLOURS! And how you MUST see it on the big screen, because OMG, the small screen is not enough to catch everything. I need to see it again to catch everything, but I walked out all dizzy from watching it once because IT NEVER STOPS MOVING!

MMhmmm.

I can't imagine watching it on a small screen. I just don't think it'd work.

Kids will indeed love it. There was a whole ROW sitting behind me, cheering and gasping the entire way.

I wanted to smack Speed's little brother at times though...

Yeah, but I bet some of the kids loved him, and strangely, that was true to the TV show, too. :D

Oh indeed, and indeed.

...but I still wanted to smack him. ;D

Heh. Yeah, me too, especially right at the end.

OTOH, the monkey has a wrench, and used it for awesome.

Monkey Wrench'd! :D

While that was awesome, I just loved John Goodman kicking ass.

i refuse to see it NOT on acid. and since acid went out of style in the 70s... *sigh* why can't illegal drugs be easier to get?

It's hard to get for you? Man, you're obviously not talking to the right people.

Half the people in my high school knew where to score it.

(Also, while I wasn't on acid, a couple mojitos, a few beers, and a martini or two were...enhancile to the experience.)
