Jun. 4th, 2008 11:41 pmWell, there we are.
Aside from my knee-jerk "FUCK DETROIT" reaction? It was a good series. Pittsburgh pulled themselves off the mat admirably, and I think it speaks well for how it all ended. They fought like hell right to the last whistle, and were pretty damn classy in saluting the fans and leaving respectfully, without causing a big fuss or bunching around waiting to see if somehow Fleury or Crosby got the Conn Smythe.
I'm glad for guys like Drake and Cleary who may well be at the end of their careers, and finally get to hold that cup above their heads before they leave. I think that Detroit played well and was, generally, the better team once they benched Hasek. (I'd also note that Hasek can now please fuck back off to Prague, yes?)
In general? This was a good transition year for the Jackets followed by some really excellent playoffs. I'm very satisfied, and I'm looking forward to the offseason....and let's not forget the Draft is now 2 weeks from Friday. :> Here's hoping for some good news there, too.

Date: 2008-06-05 10:36 am (UTC)Maybe if I follow hockey more, I'll be able to figure out what it is about Detroit that makes people either a loyal fan or harbor a vile hatred of the Redwings.

Date: 2008-06-05 11:37 am (UTC)Well, in my case, there's the whole Ohio / Michigan thing, plus Columbus and Detroit being in the same division.
I think for most people, it's that the Red Wings are basically the NHL equivalent of the Yankees.

Date: 2008-06-05 02:10 pm (UTC)Admittedly I am dissapointed that the Pens didn't get the cup this year. But hell, it's the first time they've even been to the finals in eighteen yeras. And since most of the team is young kids ...
