Umberger.

Certainly, not the greatest solution for some of our problems, but let's face it - proven NHL centre, OSU product, hell of a lot of scoring touch and intensity.

Yeah, I'd be happy with that. I hope it's not the -only- move we make this weekend, but if that comes true I imagine at least 3 of us will be buying new jerseys.

He'd be a nice addition. Not a number one center yet, but a big improvement. I'd prefer they took Pietrangelo to Schenn if that was a choice, but we shall see.

I think Howson is making and taking a lot of phone calls today.

If I had to wave my crystal ball, I doubt that Umberger would be a 6th or 19th rounder. Maybe something like the 35th pick + Picard, or a combination of the 35th and one of our extra 4th or 5th rounders?

I like Pietrangelo myself, but much as we need D-men? I really am hoping Filatov's available at 6. Even if we didn't take him, I suspect the trade offers for the 6th pick would get a -lot- more interesting.

Trading a number one, even 19, for Umberger would be a great stretch. Fritsche and a third round pick sounds about right to me. Is he an unrestricted free agent?

Filatov seems to be very eager to play in the NHL. But does his blog attitude match that of his play on the ice?

Really hope they do not trade the sixth pick. They need something now though.

He's an RFA, I believe, so I'm sure a contract extension would be in there. Fritsche is also an RFA and was qualified by Columbus, so a trade is possible?

(Might be a little awkward though - they've got him scheduled for an autograph session over at the Tuttle Blue Line right after the draft!)

Filatov really impressed me during the Super Series and World Juniors. I suspect he needs some work on conditioning based on the stories he wrote from the combine (trouble on the bike tests, trouble on the VO test) but he's a gamer, and it's far easier to teach him how to work out right than how to score goals.

I'm fine with trading anything if it's a -good- deal. Trading it just for the sake of making a deal would suck.

It occurs to me that, should this come to pass, [livejournal.com profile] dklegman appearing in certain locales with an Umberger jersey would no longer be grounds for Kanly.

Oh, it still will be. :D

Note the implicit conditionality of "certain locales" in my assertion.

I put the "Can" in Kanly, Poindexter.
