The first round went very well, I thought.

I'll happily take Umberger over Cammalleri or Jokinen - we couldn't have paid the price for Jokinen, and Umberger fits our system better. (Plus, y'know, OSU grad, which I'm sure is going to be in about 50,000 places in the paper tomorrow, and the ads for tickets next season, the media guide, and my pants.)

Filatov was the best player available, and has the talent to be really exciting - I doubt he makes the lineup next season, but an evaluation look of a few games wouldn't shock me, and if he plays well in the Cuse he could easily be called up.

I have a feeling the lines look like this now:

Modin - XXXX (UFA, perhaps somelike like Lombardi if Calgary might move him) - Nash
XXXX (Fritsche? Malone? Murray? Bueller? Bueller?) - Umberger - Zherdev
Brule - Brassard - Voracek
Chimera - Malhotra - Boll

XXXX (Campbell?) - Hejda
Klesla - XXXX (Kubina?)
Rome - Russel

Just a what if for a club desperately deserving of luck. IN the unlikely event that Filatov turns out to be the #2 player in the draft (as opposed to pick) then you team him with Brassard and Voracek. YOu get a speed line with real skill that can mature together.

I drool.

I just don't want to pencil him in before he's even attended a single day of NHL training camp, but, yeah, in time.....woooohooohoohoohoooo.
