If mom asks for help digging a hole for one of Alison's garden projects, ask which side of the house they want it on.

Digging a 3' x 3' hole into SOLID ROCK AND CLAY underneath the sod and a thin veneer of dirt is really not fun. OW.

The funny thing is, where they're putting this shrub -used- to have a raised bed box with a forsythia bush in it that had been there for years.

Then at some point after I moved out, during my sister's delusions of landscaping, they tore it down and got rid of it.

Now, they have a new shrub, to go in the same place, and decided to just dig and put it there instead of building another box.

Oye.

Is this when I need to get a camera to post my front lawn?

Maybe I do.

Three 6' circles at about a foot depth. Clay and rock. Oh, and it's been raining off and on, so sometimes it's a pond.

*sad*

In a few years, maybe. Lilacs take a while to grow and flower.

They're currently on my back deck, and if the scattered showers tonight don't show up, I'll have to water them again. Those pots they're in are a wee bit small.

We're not quite done digging, either. We have to finish the last circle, then put in a drainage grade, because yes, it does pond. The plants are still getting mound-planted - they'll be a good foot off the ground, but the bottom second foot is underground, and my paranoia in case we get another 3-4 inches of rain in a week.

We had one day at the end of June where we got more than an inch in one day, and that wasn't even a hurricane. Nuts. We had 6.5 inches for the month. I was really starting to feel like we were drowning....

Everyone's been saying we've had way more rain this summer than normal here, too. :(
