...I'm having one of those days at work that ends with, "Fuck it, I quit, let's go open a damn restaurant."

Bennigans just went out of business, so there are a lot of newly available locations.

I've just read two of Anthony Bourdain's books. That gives me some kind of expert knowledge on restauranteering, right?

LET'S DO IT.

Have you watched Office Space lately?

I find it to be theraputic.

Sadly, I don't think there were actually any in Ohio. I only remember seeing them when I went out of state.

At the very least, he tells you what not to do. :D

I've seen it once or twice, but I dunno if I find it to be the "oh, this is my LIFE" movie the way some people I know do.

There are five in Ohio, mostly around Cleveland. And one by OU.

Only the corporate-owned ones are closing, which is about half of them. The franchise ones are still open.

They share a corporate parent with Ponderosa, but I can't tell if they are closing too, or not.

Ponderosa is, supposedly, fine.

...should I be concerned about you and Andy's in-depth Bennigans knowledge?

I just go to the website and look it up. :)

Japanese-Mexican Fusion or Bust.

...what scares me is that, with enough creativity, someone can probably make that work.

I'd probably look at doing a BBQ joint.

It really is kinda tempting. :D

We could open a smokehouse barbeque place. Start on the road, move south with the seasons, enter competitions, battle our way to the top of the grilling world.

Actually, I think the best way I'd like to start is get one local place, get everything tuned up, and then start doing some local competitons, jazz and rib fest, things like that, and expand from there.

There's only one really decent BBQ chain down here (CityBBQ), and most of the other places I've been to are either more about oven-style ribs and such, or...well, just awful.

Being able to do good quality work might make a whole big difference.

Quality will always sell to somebody. You've seen how busy CityBBQ gets.

With soy-chipotle dipping sauce, I suppose.

Same here. I just happen to know where in Ohio those cities are. :)

And yeah, it seems Ponderosa is owned just a little higher up the chain (second cousins instead of first, or something), so I can continue to get unlimited amounts of acceptable chicken wings when I'm in Pennsylvania.

Cajun sushi FTW!

Given the number of sushi places there are in the Gulfport/Biloxi area, I'm suprised I haven't run into that already.

Or do sushi rolls made with crawfish count?

Are the rolls sprinkled with blackening spice? If so, definitely! :)

At least of recently, there's a Cambodian-Mexican restaurant in Columbus. Separate pages on the menu, but hey.

Isn't that the one that nearly killed Kai, or am I thinking of another place?
