I'm in a bit of a Schroedinger's situation.

I noticed this morning that I didn't really see Onyx around the house last night. I thought he might just be hiding after Alex left due to the house equilibrium being shaken up. Neither Alex or I thought he got out while we packing to take Alex to the airport, but I couldn't actually remember seeing him since.

I come home tonight and I still can't find him - and I look around pretty thoroughly.

But outside, there's a smallish black cat that looks...quite a bit like Onyx prowling around. After some cajoling and a hand from [livejournal.com profile] kaote, we bring him inside and he goes right for the food and water bowls. Doesn't freak out, doesn't try to run around. Seems remarkably calm and placid.

Patches isn't freaking out about his presence too much, and it seems like Onyx somehow got outside and we brought him in none the worse for wear.

And yet I'm still kinda "Is this actually my cat?" There was no collar, but Onyx breaks them very easily, so that's not unusual, and it certainly seems like it's Onyx, but I keep wondering if I'm gonna go downstairs in a second and have -three- cats staring at me instead of the usual two.

I guess it's not the end of the world if that happens, but right now I just can't figure out if I actually brought home my cat or not...

And now I feel like playing a round of "The Minister's Cat" except for replacing "Minister" with "Zen Archer"

Until we figure out if he's absolutely sure Onyx or not, I'm tempted to start calling him Formica, when he isn't hiding.

Obviously you should name him Schroedinger.

The problem is that's very hard to say a lot when you're trying to call him. :) It's a natural tounge twister.

You? Call for him?

What, what is this, human? I don't recognise this foolishness.

Make enough noise and he'll come see what's going on.

How can you not tell your cat apart from other cats?!
Weird.

There is a point where one small black domestic shorthair looks a lot like the other when you don't have a good way to compare them side by side.

It's like that movie Clint Eastwood just made.
