Someone asked people at Wooster to take a moment to write what they did a year ago, and what they planned on doing tomorrow.
Last year....I woke up, went to class. Then went in to work for the staff meeting. Phil stopped me as I got off the elevator. "No staff meeting. Just go look at the TV in my office." I went in to hear "A plane has struck the world trade center...and...what's that noise?" I watched the second plane hit. My knees went out from under me.
I watched that for a long time.
Then I found my friends. The entire Program was in the basement, around the TV. We sat for a very long time. We hugged. We cried. We were scared. We talked.
They brought food around to the dorms at lunch so people wouldn't have to leave. We ate. I burned 2 phone cards getting ahold of friends out of town. Then Isa, Sarah, and a few others drove up to see Noelle at Kent. Steve was trapped at Wright-Pat AFB because of his reserve duties and the fact that they needed all the trained medics on duty. She needed friends.
We spent a lot of the day shopping at stores that were still open for essentials, making some dinner, and sharing. Being friends.
This year...I'm going to class. I'll probably go to the convocation service, since it's kinda unoffiicially mandatory for the campus.
Then I'm gonna go home and talk to my friends. And live a normal life.
Because that's what matters.
