Hrm, I have shinai, but a *practice* claymore? Unless you are talking about the mine, this seems kind of strange as platemail isn't all that common nowadays. Then again, I suppose it's all aesthetics, so I am just asking a pointless question. Please ignore me.

Take PVC or Rattan in a 6-foot length. Pad with PVC foam. Wrap in duct-tape. Construct grips and crossguard. Mate with blade. Whalalah.

My version:

Get 1 solid hockey stick.
Saw off "blade" area.
Wrap in duct tape.
Attatch solid object for hilt/crossguard (I used a brass light fixture). Use more duct tape as needed.
Cover blade area in that foam rubber insulation (or not if you're in a Clobberin' Mood).

Voila. Instant Bastard Sword.
