First off, in honor of the title of my post:
Please read this comic. It updates sporadically, but I think it's rather nice.
So we had First Year Day. Only I spent 90% of it without seeing First Years. Instead, I handled more Blaster and SoBig infections, including about 6 hours of work at the Security offices. FUN. Really.
On the upside, the parts for
kobold and
litagemini's computers started arriving.
kobold's will be forwarded to him per his request, but the others were mine to play with. Bwahah, hahah. So I attached processor (1.1 GHZ Duron) to motherboard, and wrestled the heatsink on. (It was, in fact, using those arched metal fan clamps, which were a pain in the ass.) Mated the memory, then checked the FDD and HDD for placing them into the case, which ought to arrive Friday.
Work provided breakfast, lunch, and dinner, which was pleasant, but when I got home I was taken...no...gripped by a craving for ice cream.
So after awhile, I finally went up to try this new 'Scoops' place that opened up. It's near Wal-mart, and it's open until 11 weeknights. But there are downsides. First, it's all Velvet brand ice cream (though the bulk candy selections seem quite wide.) Second, it's designed almost entirely for dine-in, and doesn't really have the room for it. (It was packed out onto the street.) Finally, it tries far too hard to be a 50's type place. Poodle skirts, assorted outfits, Elvis being played far too loud, and at times the staff butchered what might have once been a decent little song. (Wooly bully was sung while I was there, and atrocious doesn't even start...)
Still, it has potential. I think I need to go for a sit-down type deal (or to get the candy instead) and try those sides of things, to see if that changes my impression. And the $2 I paid for a rootbeer float was pretty good.
That said, I really sated the craving by going to TCBY's drive-through and getting a little cup of white chocolate and strawberry.
On the other hand, I'm kinda nostalgic for Maggie Moo's. I could walk into that and get almost any ice cream combo you can imagine, in cup, cone, or largish take-homey thing. Ah, well.
Finally, BW3 seems extremely close to opening. The inside seemed almost finished, they're hiring staff, and when I drove past, the TVs and arcade machines were all turned on.
So. We survive.
