I just picked up Mechassault myself. I haven't tried online play yet, because I've played it for all of an hour, and if you complete the campaign you are supposed to have a couple extra mechs for online play.
Mechassault kicks all kinds of ass. I'm pretty sure my buddies are going to like it, considering we have a long history of playing Battletech, and the Mechwarrior games, and have played nearly every console stomping 'bot game since the Super NES Mechwarrior. ;-)

Although I keep using heavy mechs for stuff in multiplayer. I love the Hammer Missiles. ^_^
