Here we go!

1. You graduated. Welcome to the rest of your life. What the hell are you doing with it?

Well, I'm doing an IT internship at Wooster, where I will pick up more money, my A+ and Apple hardware certs, lots of warranty work qualifications, and hopefully a couple shots at full-time work after the end of the internship. If I get very lucky, I might get a full time job that also lets me pick up my MA in History or possibly film studies.

2. Social drama. Good, bad, ugly? Discuss!

Good when it produces thoughtful introspection and positive change. Or if it's on Law and Order. Otherwise....more often than not it causes too much damage for people to really deal with effectively.

3. What is your idea of the perfect place?

Well, now. There a lot of those.

A 'home' type place: With warm carpets, cool walls, paintings, big TV, couches, and room to live and work without a problem. A place where I'm myself and not worrying about the rest.

A 'place' place: Isle Royale. It's isolated, and there's no technology at all there, but it's also heart breakingly beautiful, and it is just so peaceful there...I can't stay there for more than a few weeks at a time, because I'm a bit too addicted to the modern world. But it's worth it.

A 'work' place: An office with enough space that I can have what I need, but not feel cramped, and close enough to my cowokers that I don't feel alone.

4. If you could change one thing and it would stay changed, what would it be?

Too many of my friends don't seem to smile, anymore. I want them to be able to smile again, dammit.

5. Name all the Science & Humanities songs you can! What do they mean to you?

Oh, now here's a toughy.

The Aliens Are Coming...: Fun nights in the lounge, and most specifically the big blackout, Freshman year.
THE CHAIRS, THE CHAIRS: Do I have to explain what this means?
We're on a pirate ship...: Fond memories of just how fucking bent we all were.
Without Faith: Okay, so it's TSN and not specifically S&H, but we helped make it! And it just represents Sophomore year in general to me.
mmMm. I'm trying to think of how many other songs that make me think of S&H, but some of them may just be part of TSN's rep, and not specifically S&H.

Really, though, those are enough.

So. Anyone want me to interview them?

Hmm. Okay.

1. Several of your research projects in Post-grad looked liked they'd bear pretty interesting fruit. Any fascinating results you can discuss without an NDA clamping down?

2. So, the whole wedding thing is coming, and the house, and the fences, but I don't think we've heard much about honeymoon plans. Anything forming up yet?

3. What ever happened to the gigerite of the week?

4. Reading anything interesting right now? (Technical or non-technical literature is fine.)

5. Finally, the requisite odd one: If you could turn anyone into a dolphin, who'd be getting fins?

Matt, thank you for indulging me. It's truly delicious.

1. Certainly. In in my final thesis iteration I will be submitting 13 novel protein DNA sequences in an upcoming paper that have never been characterized in the history of Earth. All I can really say is they are likely targets of inflammation in the human condition of the flu, and that they have a variety of post-translational characters, but still, the originality of it is momentarily fulfilling.

I currently am involved in four projects at work, all revolving around sepsis, or bacterial infection. We are developing two models of the human hospital condition in mice. The first is a 'two hit' model where we induce a severe infection in the abdomen and then later simulate microaspiration in the lungs with acid. This project is slated to go for at least another year and will consume the bulk of my time. The second project is tangetial to the first - we are looking at the effects of microaspiration on asthmatics by creating asthmatic mice. This is achieved by sensitizing them to purified cockroach allergens, which have been shown to be the leading cause of child-developed asthma in humans. The third project is of a cellular nature, and indeed, is one of the reasons I was specifically brought in, as the lab primarily consists of medical doctors, physiologists and in vivo folks. I'm characterizing the cytokine (small, secretable molecules) profile of the white blood cells in the mouse. This project is about to be presented to Shock Society and will probably wrap up in the next few weeks. However, as any good science goes, this project has sprung a new one, namely the genetic profile analysis of these cells. Again, this is solely my territory in the lab and will fall to my shoulders squarely (I like that). I plan to publish these data as my first professional publication as first author. Finally, the fourth project is an antibody generation experiment. There's a molecule called 'LIX' that has little work done on it. We're using a rabbit to generate antibodies to this mouse LIX molecule, then plan to see what happens to a mouse in the absence of LIX. Chances are, little - the immune system in higher mammals is excellently redundant. However, we probably will see some interesting physiology happen inside. Again, this particular area promises rapid and sexy data for quick publication. Too bad I only get a few hours a week to stab at it.

2. The Honeymoon has been scuttled. Back in January Nicole and I decided to put our tax refunds towards one, and for the past four months we were looking to take two weeks to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. That money is still maturing in our sexy 1.8% savings account, however, neither of us are really bent on a honeymoon - we'll have been together ten years in November and in that time we've had plenty of rompy sex-filled exotic trips. Chances are we'll take the week off and bask in our own excellence after the wedding, and the money will go for a new stereo or a second dinette set.

3. Yeah, my hooligan gallery. Pure 'eh'. But your mention of it does warm my cockles to get going on that. If memory serves I haven't even gotten through all my TLY folks, let alone the reams of M3 dogs. Maybe I can turn one out Thursday.

4. I'm not that bright. So instead of reading, I watch a lot of reality TV, wrestling and football. Secondly, I make a decent coin. So before we continue, let us consult this visual aid about the cost of being stupid:

That said, I'm hoping to start 'Lullaby' by Chuck P. I'm a HUGE fan of his work - which I finally got now (after year in press) because I spent all my cash on cable, and got the book free from a colleague of mine who likes to read books and give them away. I HIGHLY recommend 'Choke' for every solid American Man.

5. Ann Coulter. I hate that fucker.
