So. Home.

Upsides:

Got my VCR for [livejournal.com profile] sekhmet and [livejournal.com profile] tempest56.
Got some books from the house.
Got lunch.
Got groceries.
Used my Borders giftcard from graduation.
Got comics for the week.
Got my dad a card.
One of the neighborhood strays has apparently adopted my parents front porch as his home. He's got a collar, but nobody seems to actually own him, and he's been using the porch as a sleeping area and home base for almost a week. He's grey and white, and not that old. I want my parents to take him to a vet and get him looked at. I think they're planning to.

Downsides:

Based on the stuff between the lines, my sister's medical costs have skyrocketed, and my parents are in serious financial woe.
My father looks terrible. His health is on a downward spiral.
My mom's apparently seeing a therapist 4 days a week. She looks like she's in a war.
My sister only wants to talk about her new job selling herbal suppliments door to door. That doesn't seem a good sign either.
My father found the check I put in his card, and handed it back to me, insisting I didn't have to give him anything, and he wouldn't take my money.
Now, on the one hand, sure, I can use the money too, but on the other hand....that kinda hurt. I gave them the money to buy something both he and mom wanted to get and can't right now...and he very politely threw it back in my face.

It hurts a bit.

I dunno. I have to go up to Wal-Mart to get some stuff for B-WISER, and I'm tired. Gonna make some dinner here in a minute...

I really feel like I would have been better if I'd not have gone home.

You'll need to pardon my sticking my oar in here, considering we don't really know each other, but I wouldn't look at it as him throwing it back in your face. Some people just have trouble accepting things like that from others. They see it as charity.

I know I can be just as bad. I hate people giving me money, no matter how bad my own financial situation might be. It just doesn't sit well with me.

But even that they've made the effort helps me, gives me that little added boost to know that they care enough.

You not only made the offer, you actually gave him the money, and I'm sure that won't have gone unnoticed or unappreciated.

After having a day to think it over, you're right...though honestly, I don't know what his long term reaction will be.

We'll wait and see, I guess.
