I can't help feeling a certain satisfaction when people are fucked because of something stupid that *they* did ...

On the other hand, for at least a little while it may suck to be you. If it's any consolation, I know exactly what it feels like to have to clean up after the messes made by people who were incompetent and/or neglectful.

OTOH, a lot of people are not happy, and we could lose a lot because of this.
