There's nothing like turning your day around.

You see, work was kinda intense, with everyone being crabby. (And the fact that my Visor's screen got fatally cracked didn't help. Though John's gonna try to convince that since this is something that happened to Every Other Visor In The Office, perhaps getting me a replacement Palm would be a good idea.) On the up side, we finally found a solution to some problems just in time to check it and then leave.

On the down side, it came from a guy I personally hate. Bleah. Oh, well. It happens.

So I went to the store afterwards, and I was surprised. For I went to the IGA rather than Bueller's or Wal-Mart, and I LEARNED. The selection there can, at times, be sparse...but what you find often makes up for it.

6 mini-kaiser buns, 2 big rounds of sourdough bread, and a bag of extra long hotdog buns: $2.50
2 half gallons of Homemade ice cream (Guilty pleasure. Bite me.): $4
2 packs of smoked sausage: $5
BIG pack of all beef franks: $2
Microwavable pierogies: $1
Pack of 8 corn dogs: $2
4 pot pies, various flavors: $4
Butter: $1

That's stuff to make the cores of several meals, once I add veggies or beans (I need to get a can-openeer, then I get canned goods). Plus I can go back for some beef or chicken at similar prices for real cooking. And I paid something like $24 with tax. MUCH cheaper than the last time I went to wal-mart for groceries.

Needless to say, I was slowly turning the mood around by then.

Then I get home. Make a couple corn dogs just for the hell of it. Drink some water. Get the TV on.

[livejournal.com profile] jwhorfin tells me we need to help a friend. [livejournal.com profile] litagemini, to be precise. She needs a new computer, though with the help of salvaging some parts from the old. Bwahahahaha.

Nothing makes Matt happy like getting to play with hardware. New case. New board. New processor. New HDD. Really, a totally new computer in every important respect. And it helps out a friend.

She was amazed at how a little comparsion shopping can make things much cheaper. (For the record, I'm gonna be picking up most of the parts from www.tufshop.com, since they're giving some smooth pricing and upgrade deals, and the low cost for pre-testing the components I also approve of.)

Then, Cossack asked me to start parting out his future Gaming God Box. BWAHAHAHHAHHHH!

Basically, 2 good friends will be getting two new computers, Wagner Custom Built, for around $1750 or so, with shipping and all. One 1.3 GHZ Duron with 512MB of 2100 DDR, and one 3.0 P4 on an 800 MB FSB and a gig of 3200 DDR. One will have a 30GB HDD, the other 60.

Both will have one fucking sexy case.

And I get to have some fun. Timing on getting the less complex one (no offense, Amanda! It's just that it's gonna be a simpler job, all things considered!) will be a touch tight, since she has to take time to bring the parts and OS up here for me to do final assembly/testing/checkouts on. I'm gonna do my best to make sure the parts will be FedExed to arrive ASAP, so that I can spend the 16th putting it all together.
