May. 13th, 2002 08:20 pmWhat a day....
Today started at 7:30. Shower, shave, dress, and go to work about 8:30. Hoped in vain for the weather to improve. Rain continues.
Leave work at 10 to watch commencement, indoors at the PEC (Physical education center.) Commencement is -long-, but I got to watch Isa and many other friends get their diplomas...and come to some grips with the fact that in less than a year, I'll be in the cap and gown, myself. (Scary. Very, very, scary.) Alex, Lenore, and Noelle show up, as do Isa's parents, and British Mike's parents. (Despite being divorced...you can tell they still care very much for each other. It's horribly sweet.)
Ceremonies themselves end...eh...12:30ish. Then the circus begins. Some genius decided that the fairly small corridor outside the PEC gym is where food will be served. Meaning: 350+ graduates, plus family, plus friends==traffic jam. Added to fact that our whole group lost track of everyone. This lead to about an hour of trying to find each other. We finally get everyone together by regrouping at Douglass Hall, Isa's current dorm, and my former dorm. Due to running around in heavy crowds, rain, and near freezing tempratures, we are all rather cold and shivering.
1:30: Alex and I get his car and stuff. We then collect nearly everyone except Isa's parents, and Brit Mike and his parents, and go to lunch. Lunch is GOOD.
2:45: Last goodbyes to people. Then I go to work.
Work...hooo. Work steps back up with me going out to help unpack, assemble, install, and configure a new HP directJet plotter. If you've never seen one of these, they're gigantic, smell like a server room, and are really, really, neat and fun to work with. Unfortunately, it also required about ten minutes of walking in the rain to get to it. :D Then back to work the same way.
Sat at the helpdesk for about 10 minutes, in which the guy who was supposed to be working the desk all day bitched to me about the fact that he went to Commencement without asking for it off (I -did- ask for most of the day off), and got put on probation for being 4 hours late. Cry more, pal.
Then, went to the Admissions office to help them pack all their computers, and set aside four machines to take to their new building tomorrow for their temporary workstations until the furniture and new computers arrive. Lots of work.
Finally got home about 6:30ish. Tired, cold, wet. Talked to
ixx a little, talked to
sk4p a little, made some ramen and popcorn for dinner, because I was too tired to walk to Lowry, and no cash for a pizza. Wheeeeee.
