So on my way into work today, I saw a flat squirrel.

Not 'run over'. Not 'squished'.

FLAT.

Perfectly proportionally FLAT. Like rolled over by a steamroller in a Warner Brothers comic FLAT.

I've no idea how that even happened, but how cool?

Probably an SUV ran it over. Something as heavy as a dump truck or a Chevy Avalanche can totally steamroll a small animal.

I saw a flat cat in Florida, pretty much in the same condition you described. Poor little bastard...

Or maybe like that stretch Hummer I saw driving down the street full of high school girls waving at me back when it was warm out.

I can't imagine anyone'd be dumb enough to drive it around right now, though. Valentine's day, maybe, but this past weekend?

No no, I mean honestly warm, like back in November ;)

Also, you may want to check out this book

Well, yeah, I was just thinking of how the heck today's incident happened.

Very. Because it somehow violates everything I know about hydrostatics in a way that's highly amusing even though it shouldn't be.

It's possible that when it was crushed by a tire, the internal organs were pushed out of the body and eaten by scavengers, leaving only some flattened bone and fur which kept the shape of the squirrel.

Once I saw a cat that was completely flat except for one ear, which was standing straight up. Saddest thing.. ever.

You may have discovered the hardy North American Planarian Squirrel.

Not to differ too greatly from the predominant opinion in this thread, but I tend not to think 'cool' when I see squashed animals.

more than likely the little guy died and shriveled up all flatlike under the snow, only to be exposed after a brief and freakish thaw, like a mammoth. i imagine a large vehicle would have popped his guts out like pinata candy in the process of flattening him, which would have been evidenced by little frozen bits of squirell in the surounding vacinity.

yum.
