Feb. 9th, 2004 01:54 pmAnd this is why I'm never flying American Airlines ever again.
In other news, Highlights has yet to get back to the recruiter, and she's now pissed. She says that she's very frustrated by the lack of response and has left messages with them twice today, so far.

Date: 2004-02-09 02:39 pm (UTC)Now. While there may be some who have troubles with the bottles or pills (and with all the shit out there, I can't entirely blame all pilots for being a bit paranoid of late), I think that most are probably still fine and committed to safe flight.
What problems there are could probably be corrected if the Pilots Unions would be willing to allow the companies to do more self-policing and have more ability to check for/enforce drug and alcohol problems. (Last 2 times I heard of such measures being floated, the unions killed them. I don't know why, but they did.)
And if there really IS an endemic abuse problem in the flight corps? Then fire them all and train new pilots before someone augers in a 747 and the shit really hits the fan.
