Well, holy shit. Talked to Steve to help get my mind off of Lisa leaving, after dinner with my sister and father. (Chili's Quesedilla Explosion Salad is awesome, but WAAAAAAAAAAAAY too big.) Got to computers. And after parting and pricing it out...I'm going to be building it for him when it arrives.

Unexpected, but holy wow. This is gonna be great.

In other news: Lisa got harassed by the Southwest flight crew before and just after boarding due to her weight. It's the first time it ever happened to either of us. But this may encourage more car trips, or not flying Southwest.

That's definitely a cause for written complaint to Southwest. Generally, they're far better than that.

*nods* I know they've been sued before over this. I don't know if it needs to go /that/ far, but I'd at least like a written apology, y'know?

WTF? Weight harassment? What happened, exactly?

First she was singled out before boarding and told to go on the plane and make sure she could sit in one seat with the armrests down, or they'd charge her for another.

Then, she grumbled while getting the belt on, and they pulled her off the plane, put her in a little room so she could 'calm down' since she was behaving in a 'disgruntled fashion', and basically left to sit there until the rest of the plane was boarded, and only then allowed to board.

That is completley unacceptable behaviour towards a customer. Its rude, immature, and stupid. I agree with previous comments that a formal, written complaint must be sent to Southwest.

And a formal, written apology, at minimum, needed in return.

Bare minimum, frankly they should consider reimbursing her for the cost of the ticket.

I'm a big fattie, and I've never gotten harassed before. I'd write a letter, for sure. *grumbles*

Believe me, I definently want her to.

As someone who's regularly frisked at multiple security points in nearly every airport I go to, I feel for Lisa. Was the harassment related at all to this?

Yes. They singled her out before the boarding to make her go on and see if she fit in a single seat, then when she grumbled about it while getting her belt on, they pulled her off the plane for being 'disgruntled', gave her intimidation while everyone else boarded, and then let her board.

Not a happy Matt about that.

Intimidation? Of what sort? I understand checking for the one seat rule, but I know I'd grumble too if I were asked to do it, and intimidation is never called for.

Putting her off into a room off the boarding area, repeatedly suggesting she go on another flight, making her go up and down through the plane several times, etx.

Not to play the perpetual Devil, but Southwest is the most notorious discriminator of people of larger carriage. They boldly announced plans to begin such treatment almost two years ago. Between their open, consistant policy and the abundance of other airlines, why pick Southwest? I know they're extremely cheap, but all that experience would tell me is to spend my money elsewhere.

Partially because they'd been fought on it and we'd not had problems before, and partially because they do use Midway and Port Columbus as hubs, making flights not only cheap but very easy to find at times that best fit our schedules.
