OK, I feel a little bad about what I just did, but excited as well.
One of the big projects we're going to be gearing up for is replacing the Goodlink wireless email devices that our salespeople and director level types currently use with something that can operate worldwide, rather than just in the US, and has cellular phone capability. (Probably gonna be the new GSM/CDMA blackberry, but we'll see. Treo's pretty strong, too.)
The guy who was fired yesterday and I had both volunteered to work on the project, and they'd selected him from our department for obvious reasons. (Seniority, etx.) But, since he's gone, I dropped a note to my boss this morning that I was still interested in that project.
She sent me an email a few minutes ago to let me know that I was now on the team!
I feel a bit bad about capitalizing on his misfortunes, but evaluating and RFPing new equipment at Wooster was one of the most fun things I did there, so I'm really looking forward to the chance to do it again.

Besides, still volunteering for projects in a time when things are really crazy shows a determination to those above you. This should increase their faith in you and as such, when shit hits the fan again (if it does) you're less likely to come under the spotlight because "Well, he's working pretty hard for a guy that's fucking up. I doubt he's the source of the issue."
I just woke up, so that probably made more sense in my head.

Date: 2004-08-13 09:08 am (UTC)I'm very interested in doing the project because I'll enjoy it, but the fact that it will hopefully get me some positive attention (and perhaps accelerate the chances of my getting hired full time as opposed to being a consultant/contractor) will be really nice.
