I hasten to point out that Moriarty doesn't know when he's being trolled. My housemates used to go to Dave's Laser Video when he worked there and loudly talk up complete BS that would later hit AICN. ;)

That's why I'm hoping strongly it's BS.

But on the other hand, considering the "director"...

Well... no matter how good/crappy it may end up being, if it has Warren, I will see it. Like how I went to see the last one because of Kurt. ^_^

I said that about V for Vendetta, and then they shot the whole film in 3 weeks. My hopes for V for Vendetta are also in the toilet.

They put a director in who refers to himself in the 3rd person.

The franchise is fucked.

Damn. Can't view it at work.

The 2nd one's very good, but the first one was a fairly decent setup movie, I thought.

It's okay, I'm immune to rabid fangirls. It's all part and parcel of being a writer.

Gambit sucks!

I'm not a fan girl, I like the character.

Why does he suck and which comic series do you base this off of?

With Aaronofsky directing, I think it could have been decent.

I find his accent overblown and annoying, and he's like every guy I hated in high school. He has that annoying "lone wolf attitude" that exists solely as a plot device to create conflict within a team when a writer can't come up with a better idea. He's like Wolverine-lite. His costume prescribes to the angstalicious "trench coats are awesome!@11" school of 13 year-old thought. His eyes are "red" to make him "mysterious". He looks like he was designed by a Mary Sue. His angst levels are off the scale. Antiheroes are fine and all, they have their place, but Gambit's particular brand of "wannabe-007" just irks me beyond words. They keep making miniseries about him when they could be using interesting characters. He's bland and 2-dimensional, and attempts to make him more well-rounded have consisted of giving him a sob story background and having him pine after the "untouchable" girl who loses her powers every second issue but whines about it all the time anyway. What mainly annoys me is that so many people think he's an interesting, well-rounded character just because he has an accent and is OMG TEH BAD BOYZ.

Really, the only X-Men I like are Beast and Mimic. I haven't enjoyed the series as a whole since the early 90s. Too much of a soap opera.

Considering what they've done to all of Moore's other seminal comics, I wasn't holding out much hope for quality or faithfulness to the source material. It probably would've made it into some big angstfest like Dawson's Creek and turned all the characters into hip 20-somethings.

I'm not familiar with that one, but I know what you mean. Then again, people can take a good script and spend a year on it, and still produce drek.

Just have hope, and cling to it like a rock in a storm at sea.

You never know, but it's a moot issue, now.

Though, really, if I was going to do Watchmen? A Trilogy. It'd be fantastic as a Trilogy.

A trilogy would be cool, if it had to be done. I just think the Watchmen would lose its importance and power in movie form. I mean, it is the comic. I don't think that would shine through in Hollywood.

Shouldn't we, though?

1&2 weren't Shakespeare, but they weren't half bad. There was fairly strong storytelling, and quite a few scenes that spoke volumes about characters without words. (X2 - Wolverine putting a hand to the wall of ice, while Stryker's on the other side. X1 - Rogue watching kids playing basketball.)

I'd like it to be at least a half-decent story.

But the outlook for X3 is bad so far. My point wasn't about the previous movies, more of, 'better to go in knowing it's crappy than to go in oblivious and come out heartbroken.'

Ah, sorry. Thought you were referring to all of them, not just 3. I dunno. I feel like if I know it's going to be terrible, why reward them by giving them my money and seeing the show?

Somewhere on my flist (I think it was by [livejournal.com profile] calamityjon, either in his own journal or at [livejournal.com profile] seebelow), somebody proposed that the only way to do Watchmen right is to do it as animation; I suggested it should air on [adult swim].

I could see that, but I could also see ways the live action could be done. There aren't so many flashback sequences that it'd be difficult.
