I hasten to point out that Moriarty doesn't know when he's being trolled. My housemates used to go to Dave's Laser Video when he worked there and loudly talk up complete BS that would later hit AICN. ;)
Considering what they've done to all of Moore's other seminal comics, I wasn't holding out much hope for quality or faithfulness to the source material. It probably would've made it into some big angstfest like Dawson's Creek and turned all the characters into hip 20-somethings.
A trilogy would be cool, if it had to be done. I just think the Watchmen would lose its importance and power in movie form. I mean, it is the comic. I don't think that would shine through in Hollywood.
Somewhere on my flist (I think it was by calamityjon, either in his own journal or at seebelow), somebody proposed that the only way to do Watchmen right is to do it as animation; I suggested it should air on [adult swim].
1&2 weren't Shakespeare, but they weren't half bad. There was fairly strong storytelling, and quite a few scenes that spoke volumes about characters without words. (X2 - Wolverine putting a hand to the wall of ice, while Stryker's on the other side. X1 - Rogue watching kids playing basketball.)
But the outlook for X3 is bad so far. My point wasn't about the previous movies, more of, 'better to go in knowing it's crappy than to go in oblivious and come out heartbroken.'
Ah, sorry. Thought you were referring to all of them, not just 3. I dunno. I feel like if I know it's going to be terrible, why reward them by giving them my money and seeing the show?
I find his accent overblown and annoying, and he's like every guy I hated in high school. He has that annoying "lone wolf attitude" that exists solely as a plot device to create conflict within a team when a writer can't come up with a better idea. He's like Wolverine-lite. His costume prescribes to the angstalicious "trench coats are awesome!@11" school of 13 year-old thought. His eyes are "red" to make him "mysterious". He looks like he was designed by a Mary Sue. His angst levels are off the scale. Antiheroes are fine and all, they have their place, but Gambit's particular brand of "wannabe-007" just irks me beyond words. They keep making miniseries about him when they could be using interesting characters. He's bland and 2-dimensional, and attempts to make him more well-rounded have consisted of giving him a sob story background and having him pine after the "untouchable" girl who loses her powers every second issue but whines about it all the time anyway. What mainly annoys me is that so many people think he's an interesting, well-rounded character just because he has an accent and is OMG TEH BAD BOYZ.
Really, the only X-Men I like are Beast and Mimic. I haven't enjoyed the series as a whole since the early 90s. Too much of a soap opera.

I'd like it to be at least a half-decent story.
