Art type people: A question.

Good, free, image editor? And don't say the GIMP. I don't have 3 weeks to learn how to do anything with it. :D I just want to take a desktop background image and add some color to it, and I want it to look a little smoother than MSPaint.

Seconded. I used an ancient version of Paint Shop Pro on my old Windows box and it served me well.

The funny thing, still, to me, is that I learned Linux because it seemed less daunting that trying to get DJGPP installed on Windows 98. And you know, it was.

Every time I install and try to use the GIMP, it doesn't work right. It's much too complicated for doing simple tasks.

GIMP seems to lack a straight-edge tool. I downloaded it, and it can't do what I want to do. I want to add 2 straight, clear lines, change some colors in the boundaries of those lines, and done.

GIMP is clearly blah. I'd just go get the Photoshop elements trial, but I don't like all the crap Adobe tries to cram into it. (Plus, it's a 300MB download and I don't feel like 2 hours of downloading.)

I third the vote for the PSP trial when you get back from work.

Other than that, go to Wikipedia and look up "List of raster image editors." ;)
