Things done today:

Got various bits of foam from JoAnn fabrics and The Container Store to make terrain with. I already have a pair of decent bunkers and some tank traps/barricades as a result. We also got stuff to make hills and the like. Also, we now own a hot wire cutter.

I find it deeply amusing that in addition to stocking lamps with corsets for shades (no, I'm not joking), JoAnn fabrics employees don't know where the styrofoam is, but if you ask them if they sell hot wire cutters, they know exactly where and will be happy to show you.

Hot wire cutters are awesome. *ZZZZT*

Had Dave, Rich, and John over. War was had, things were grilled up deliciously, and lots of smack talk and general goodwill.

Went to the State Fair yesterday. Sang in the AOSFYC alumni concerts, had a decent amount of good food, had the best damn lemon-shakeups possible, and discovered that as scary as the idea of deep-fried cookie dough is, it actually tastes damn good.

Shatzer came down from Wooster as part of going to the fair, and we took him around town for awhile. Found out that Ravenstone's newest in a long line of owners is once again a nice guy, but seems totally inept at running the store or knowing about new product coming about. It's good that they're still consistent.

Good weekend. As usual, it wasn't nearly long enough.

I have a small collection of loose mundane plastic stuff that might be usable for terrain. If I don't attack it with primer first, I'll bring it up the next time we have a huge 40K geeking.

I should also have Drones ready to use by then.

How much foam did you get and for how much?

2 large endcap pieces from the container store that make great bunkers @ $1.40 apiece, 2 3' long foam packing corners that I was able to cut into ramparts/tank traps for $2 apiece, and then 3 4' long, 14" wide, 1.5" thick foam sheets at $4 apiece at JoAnnes.

If you ever make large scale pieces, check out insulation foam from like Lowes. It's really cheap and comes in sizes of plywood. I think it's less than 10 bucks. I know it's less than 20. But that's what they use to make most of a table out of. I should get some pictures of the Urban table at the Bunker. 20" tall building ruins, made of the stuff. Totally unplayable, save for 2 shooting armies, but very nice.

I will keep this in mind.

As it is, I spent about $20 and got more than enough to build 2 bunkers, some good ruins/ramparts, and some hills. I'm pretty pleased.

Awesome stuff. Looks like a good bunker. I have to say, I envy you hard. As nice as it is to be in a club, I'd much rather be playing 40k with my friends, but they don't have any interest in it.

Also, you might find this interesting. AFter taking an random idea from a fellow club member, I'm working on making a set of conversion rules to use Epic models for 40k. They should play faster, and allow you to make tables not really feasible on 40k scale. The idea is to allow games on very dense terrain. And also, it doesn't hurt that you could assemble an army for like, 60 bucks. :D

Definently interesting, I'd say.

I'm lucky that my friends and I are kinda turning into a club - we're also trying to find what's out there in the area, but it really doesn't hurt that Dave can call and say "Beer and Warhammer", and it goes. :D

This is one of the bunkers flipped over so Dave could put his Tau inside it, and you can kinda see the traps at the edge of the picture.

I'm increasingly drawn towards 40k and other miniature stuff. I already know I love painting them

any chance I can catch you on IM so you can explain it to me?
