bzarcher: A Sylveon from Pokemon floating in the air, wearing a pair of wingtip glasses (hk40k)

After some suprising financial reckonings of old debts, and making a few new ones, I'm staring down the barrel of a Land Raider Crusader, and the rare earth magnets I'll be using to swap between the LRC config and a standard land raider when needed.

But that isn't the part that scares me. That's just doing carving, crafting, converting - I'm not fantastic at it, but I'm learning, and when it comes to making the rare earth magnets work instead of locking something down, Alex and I have been getting rather good at it.

What scares me is that I'm seriously contemplating a full set of Dark Angels iconography and land raider hatches/doors from Forge World.

Landon? I think I'll need your sage advice before I leap down that hole.

Hell, I don't even know if the painting techniques I've learned and figured out will translate right to resin. But I also know I'm interested in finding out.

Other news: Had a Saturday pretty much to myself for the first time in awhile. Really didn't know what to do with it. Woke up rested, excited, energetic, as seen earlier. Ended up playing a lot of CoH and doing a good bit of reading.

Not bad - but not something I'm really used to. I'm really not used to waking up on a Saturday morning and not being, on one level or another, tired.

That's a tough one. I've never dealt with reason. Looks sweet as hell. And for a Land Raider, who's going to catch a lot of eyes, it's worth it. I do know this much. Consider the filing/sanding either outside, or wear a mask. The Resin is very light, and will go straight up your nose, and is as bad as fiberglass.

But for actual painting... hrm... http://www.armorcast.com/terraform/BasicTechniques.html may help. If I can remember to, when I go up to GW on Monday, I'll ask for you. They have a pretty big Forgeworld display, and a number of models painted by the staff.

The big thing really is priming the part. After that, you're just painting on top of primer, so nothing new there.

While looking further, http://www.armorcast.com/WorkingResin.html

For reference, Armorcast is the company that made the Titans and Giant Crap for Warhammer before Forgeworld did.

Yeah, I remember their stuff, and the Titan-scaled battlemechs they made for awhile.

Thank you!

If you can find out what condition stuff usually comes in from FW, how much work is needed to do cleanups, etx, I'd be intense grateful. Maybe also ask if the citadel primer can work on it, or if I will need the auto primer?

IT normally requires quite a bit of work, as the resin frequently overflows... Also had a number of people with bad orders, though Forge World does tend to remedy the situations quickly.

Never ordered from them myself though... Can't bring myself to a Pylon just yet.

Huh - I didn't even realize you played. :D Next time you're out in Ohio, bring things.

Will admit, that's a pretty sexy piece of necron deaththing.

Costly though. And I really wish I could bring myself to spend the points to field it.

When in Ohio, I definitely will. Looking forward to some competent SM competition, though not up to speed on the new rules. Last I played was just before their release.

I won't make promises about competency I can't keep, but it should be fun. :D

My friend bought Land Raider hatches from them for his Ultramarines. Didn't turn out so well, as one of the hatches couldn't fit.

Ooof.

Well, hopefully the Dark Angels hatches will be better...
