White House Press Briefing this morning.

The wolves have come out of the forest, and their teeth are sharp and hungry.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer Administration.

Seems like he expected to go out and do a little bit of public penis stroking, and instead of a happy little wanker, he found a pissed off, angry, raging erection.

I find it funny, but my prediction is one of two things:
1. If the Republicans next runner for President is in any way, shape or form related to the current group, they will be crushed.

2. The Republicans are looking very, very hard for a candidate that it not related to the current group.

1: Entirely possible, especially if the Democrats do half as good a job on this as I'm betting they will. This is a HUGE blemish on the Republican party as a whole (especially since they've been touting control of congress and the executive, and how it lets them 'get things done', right?) I expect a repudiation in both the federal and state levels.

2: Also true, but I suspect it's going to be hard to find one that's not related to the current power structure AND viable for the presidency.

After all, the 'big names' of Republican Politics don't look good at all right now, and who's left with name recognition? McCain? Possible, but unlikely - and his age is becoming an issue. Also his flipflops on abortion and gay rights ticked off a lot of moderate Republicans. Keyes? Don't make me laugh.

Bauer or Hatch might figure out something, but I don't see much. Too obscure or too likely to be taken as a crackpot, especially for Bauer. There's only one conservative politician of repute out there I can think of who they might get into the White House, but given he's sworn it off, I really don't see them getting him out there.

That is to say, I'm guessing at your unnamed one.

Oh, definently not - I also don't consider him a power player anymore. He's shot his wad.

Neither do I, but that's all I could come up with.

Powell.

Not connected to the 2nd term, VERY distanced from the 1st term screwups, and generally came out of the G.W. Bush Presidency as a good man who got screwed by the administration until he finally quit.

That said, I do not expect him to run for office ever - his family seems quite serious about wanting him to stay out of politics, and he's the sort of man who would listen to that, I think.
