TODAY: A quick recap
Jan. 12th, 2006 11:05 pm8:15 - Drop Lisa off at work. Head pounding, cold intensifying, brain aching.
8:30 - Arrive at work. Chaos is in motion and people have been leaving left and right from illness or in one case, having a crown pop off of her tooth in the middle of asking me to reschedule a planned "Get me the hell out of here for 24 hours" vacation day. Karmically appropriate, but mildly embarrassing. Do some talking and get a long lunch that day + another possible vacation day date in compensation. The same boss who berated me as reflecting badly on the department praises me as a genius because I delivered a proposal for something that probably should have been done weeks ago.
9:00 - 11:30 - Suck ensues. Drugs are taken. Water and Gatorade ingested. Kleenex gone through to stem the tide of precious brain juices mixed into sneezes.
11:30 - due to continued and unabated Suck, remaining co-workers and I resign to working through all of our lunches. One co-worker offers to grab P.F. Chang's for everyone and bring it back, and he will spot anyone without cash in their wallets. Somewhere in here 2 of our remote offices also lose their WAN links at the source.
12:30 - Spicy ground chicken with eggplant is fortunately good cold.
1:00 - 6:00pm - Suck balanced with periods of frustration, overload, uploading 18 pages of new filter variables into the Mailmarshal servers, and continued intense begging for sinus relief and/or death.
6:05pm - Recruiter from Chicago calls asking if I'd be interested in a Help Desk job over 45 minutes away at lower pay for 6 months with no hire option or extension provision. Politely decline.
6:15 - Pick up Lisa
7:00 -
dklegman arrives with gifts of spite. Good Eats is watched and chops are discussed. The decision to assault Tumbleweed rather than try to cook is made.
7:30 - Alex arrives and we deploy in force to the Steakery. See the ESPN news update about Carson Palmer's knee injury possibly being a career ender and get interrupted by the dude mopping the floor mentioning that he had his MCL and ACL damaged playing ball, and he came back just fine.
After burritos, steaks, and discussion, we conclude that we probably put more weight on the surgeon's assessment, and that Star Trek: The Motion Picture cannot be worse than Star Trek V simply by virtue of Transporter Accidents.
8:45 - Art store assaulted for cheap carrying case for 40k stuff, brushes, moleskines and sketchpads.
9:20 - Barnes and Noble assaulted for stuff to read while I'm at Jury Duty. I find out that there is not only a Zombie Survival Guide (purchased), but now also How To Survive The Robot Uprising (will purchase tomorrow). Bwhahaha. Suspect my book choices will lead to me getting excused from Jury Duty if I play my library right.
9:45 - Arrive back home. Introduce Klegman to "Distraction", watch MxC, and take NyQuil. Lisa and Alex fall off the wagon and succumb to sleep and such in here somewhere, while Dave and gain much enjoyment from the horrible suffering of others and destruction of their baubles. (They dropped a 2 ton barrel on an iMac. I can't imagine how fun that must have been.)
10:30ish - Dave departs for the High Chapparal. Obtain driving directions and start catching up on the day
Now - NyQuil taking affect, I think. Hurrah.
