Ahhh, unexpected suck.

So, Onyx was sitting in Alex's lap when he suddenly started furiously trying to clean his back paw. On inspection, we found that he'd managed to put a decent sized cut into it, between the toes.

Long story short, Alex and I just got back from the pet ER (regular vets weren't open) and having it cleaned and treated. He's now in one of those nice cone-collars for a few days, and we get to give him antibiotics and other fun for a little while.

On the other hand, that's a lot better than not finding out until it was seriously infected or worse.

He's angry at us, understandably, but otherwise seems to be doing OK.

our cat (technically, Snowspinner's) got skunked nine days ago. None of us were willing to risk life and limb to try one of those folk remedies (that's all there are), so Kitty Kitty has been exiled to the basement in the evenings and spending much of the days outdoors.

The aroma is starting to fade.

I actually strongly reccomend a bath of tomato juice, if Kitty can be talked into it. Mythbusters did a thing on this awhile ago, and they found that the acids in the juice killed off a lot of the compounds that cause the smell.

Tomato juice worked really well when our kitties and dog in Texas got skunked on a fairly regular basis.

I watched in horror once, yelling "That's not a kitty!" as our little dog trotted up to sniff a skunk's butt.
