bzarcherPart of my plan for today, aside from hopefully celebrating a championship, was to take my mom out to lunch for her Birthday.
I did end up getting to do that today, but it was a much more maudlin affair than I planned.
My sister's oldest cat (who is also very much my mom's cat) is dying. She has cancer, and she's in the MedVet ER right now.
Brando started having problems using one of her legs just before Christmas. The vet told my parents that it was probably a pinched nerve, and to make an appointment with a neurologist. (Sadly, the next available appointment is for next week...) Because Brando didn't appear to be in any pain (and except for needing a little ramp to the edge of the litterbox, she didn't seem to have any difficulty moving around), they were OK with waiting, and took the vet at his word.
A couple days ago, she stopped being able to use another leg. They called the Vet again, and he said it was probably something the neurologist needed to look at, not him. They took her to the ER this morning because it was the first day the Neuro was in.
The Neuro is 99% certain it's a tumor affecting her spine. They're doing an MRI and ultrasound to find out if it's operable, or if it's simply a matter of time. Mom went to lunch with my sister and I because we won't know the results until 4pm today.
It felt a lot like a funeral, and I just tried to do what I could for them. I'm afraid that either way, the news is going to be bad.
