Wow.

I think the only thing that'd make today worse would be a car accident. I'm actually OK, aside from feeling crappy, but everyone around me has had the worst day possible, and I'm really feeling the affects.

Blaeh.

I think there's something wrong with today. We have a lot of people out sick, I got upsetting email first thing in the morning that's colored the whole day, and Gary almost got fired from his weekend job (he's been put on "reserve" but wasn't asked to return his keys; this is largely because his boss has no concept that it might be difficult to haul 70-lb tables around after knee injury/surgery).

Lisa found out today "off the record" that because of budgetary cuts and "the fact that you're a little too refined and not quite fitting in", even though she has very good job performance, her position's under review and she may get let go at the end of Feb.

It's really been a very wrong day.

Jeezus christ. She's still at OSU, right? I'd recommend she complain to HR about the reasons for her being fired if that happens.

Heaven forfuckingbid University people should be forced to encounter an intelligent, ept person working in a parking lot booth. It'd hurt their illusions and prejudices and stuff, and we can't have that!

Yeah, she is.

The manager has at least sort of offered to help her find a position in another department. I didn't honestly think about complaining to HR, but maybe that's not such a bad idea. (Of course, Lisa said she wasn't even supposed to know about this today, but the manager kept looking at her funny, so she came into his office and asked him to explain...)

I'm really, really confused by the "too refined" thing. I'm really not sure where the fuck that came from.

I have been seeing more jobs opening up at OSU, so she might in fact be able to find something better. But if she can't, yeah, filing a complaint might help her stay employed.

She's more pissed that she might have to drop her classes than anything else, which I can understand.

Jeez, yeah, I'd be hopping mad, too. Definitely complain.

She's probably gonna talk to you tomorrow or so about that.

Too refined? It's a popularity contest I think. Boss doesn't like his employees smarter than he is.

Yeah, sounds like a bad day all around

The other thing Lisa thought of in the car is that perhaps this is related to her getting treatment for ADD, but I just don't know. This is just 8 kinds of fucked.

I saw an accident, today, actually. I was on the bus at a red light and some dude in the lanes to the left ran it and clipped the end of a fellow exercising his green light rights, spun the poor fellow around in the intersection.

So, uh. Sorry to make your day all the more worse?

Look on the bright side: At least there isn't bubonic plague right now. I tell myself this on bad days, seems to help. A little.

...actually, that makes me feel a little better, since at least I wasn't in the accident.
