Mats Sundin has stated to the Leafs that he will not waive his NTC.

I've already heard a few people complain that he's "Costing the team" by not wanting to move.

Honestly, it's just another layer of the crap that Sundin's gotten from a certain section of the fanbase who will probably never forgive him for being the piece that came back to Toronto in exchange for sending Doug Gilmour out of town.

I think that you have to look at the fact that he's ready to retire, and he doesn't want to play his last games in a jersey he doesn't feel is his, with a bunch of guys who he doesn't know. He wants to go out with the guys he's been playing with for 15 years, in the city he loves, for the team he's played his heart out for.

"It's not in my heart to leave my teammates."

Who can really blame him for feeling that way?

*nods* After Mats said "No", I expected McCabe to be the next Leaf to have trade rumors pick up. I could easily see him back on the Island, especially if his wife decided she wanted to be back there for raising the soon-to-be-kid.

*SIGH*

The thing with Sundin has gotten really nasty really fast. And a lot of the people who hate him blame *HIM* for the team not winning the Cup. In the mean time, he's been one of the best players the team's got.

He may be ready to retire. Or he might figure he's got ONE more season. That's the whole point of the "one year contracts" a lot of the older veterans have.

As for McCabe... I'm wondering if perhaps the backlash after that game vs. Buffalo has anything to do with his wanting to leave. Because, yes, it was a mistake which cost the team a win, but it got ugly and personal REALLY fast.

It's entirely possible. I'm sure that is a major factor in what he's thinking.

Sounds like Leafs Hockey is as much a pressure cooker as Ohio State Football.

Sheesh. I would hope if I were a hand I'd treat nicely a man who has given us so many good years.
