Hmmm.

I am torn between "@$%&, all our execs are going to want iPhones when this comes out of beta." and "Oh, man, I wonder if I can talk my boss into getting me one."

well, the only thing that really matters is if you can get one.

I dunno. Being asked to fix it at 2am by an irate VP without having one to look at myself gets a little tricky. :D

Can I get one? The possibility there - I mean, we -are- part of the Evil Empire.

Will I?

Answer unclear.

I had those same two conflicting thoughts, especially when I got an email saying AT&T executives will be trying them "in house" first...

Yep.

And it's weird how AT&T (or us child companies) seem to always think that the execs are the perfect "pilot group"...

Oh, well. Keeps me in beer and skittles, I suppose.

They who control the purchase orders are the perfect 'pilot group'. Of course let the rep know that the execs will be a lot happier with their product if the techs also have one to practice on.

See, last time we did that, it backfired.

The CEO did buy one for himself....but he got the spare for his Admin to use for helping him with it.

She basically had me on speed dial for about a month, and every conversation started with "Hey, on Bob's phone..." :D

*snicker* I think it's because they think that if you belong to the company you're less likely to bitch to everyone you meet that AT&T's (or whoever's) service sucks while they work out the kinks.

This means we'll have corporate accounts now?

SWEEEEET.

Actually, the iPhone went (quietly) onto the corporate sales sheet about a month ago.

Assuming you wanted a 16GB iPhone (cause, y'know, if you're gonna steal, steal nice), it's $499 for the device, and you can get a corporate pooled voice plan starting at $33 a month, plus $30 a month for unlimited data with international roaming.

Edit: OK, $30 a month is unlimited US, and NORTH AMERICAN international roaming. I guess to add EMEA and APO is more like $60 a month.

Still, that's actually not bad, and stacks up pretty favorably to what you're paying for Blackberry or WinMobile monthly costs.

My phone makes and recieves calls in an acceptable manner. I am pleased.

However, I'd just as soon not be called to begin with, most of the time.

heh. See, I do two weeks out of every month on primary or secondary on-call, so I don't reaaaally get that option. :D

Oh I know that. I'm on the phone with our dispatcher all the time when I'm out in the field.

Doesn't mean you or I have to like it. :P

I'm just more of a 'converse in face' or 'converse in text while killing things' person. :P

Heh. Fair enough.

I dunno, I figure if work is paying me to carry a phone, I far prefer they pay me to carry a really cool phone that I can use to goof off and read the internet on do other things with as well.
