Matt SMASH.

Work has, frankly, been the day from hell.

Not only is the helpdesk here down by 2 people because they both called in sick, the desktop team is also down to -1- person.

1.

One, singluar, one.

The phones have been ringing off the hook since 7:30 until just a few moments ago, and because we're trying to help the single desktop guy out some, I am covered in machines to do preliminary break/fix on. (Thank god for the KVM switch.)

On top of that, we've had a LOT of users trying to just walk in and get us to do whatever their problem is before whatever's really important, regardless of what's going on. So bad that we have not only closed the desktop and helpdesk doors, but the helpdesk door is locked and the desktop access door has been switched to PIN only mode on the card reader. It was the only way to get on top of what's been rolling downhill at us.

On the shoulders of 3 stressed out people rest over 3500 users. None of whom appreciate that fact worth a damn.

Please let me make it through to lunch. I know I packed something, but I may go out just to get away from here.

Oh, hell.

Perimeter just called. I'm fine, but Alex got denied on the credit-thingy. He's going to talk to them and see what he can do.

I'm also calling Meadowview to see what's up there.

Edit: Good and bad news. Good is that Meadowview is going through without a problem, but they have to finish some of their employment checks. No big deal. Bad news is that Alex found out the problem: It's apparently an unpaid citation from about 6 years ago in Indiana that he didn't even know about. He's trying to get it paid and out the door, but they don't have a good paper record of it...OTOH, if he gets it paid, we're in for Perimeter. They said he just needs to get that cleared.

Edit part deux: So if Alex doesn't want to pay this fine (which has accrued to over $1000), he has to track down the city attorney at the time who issued the citation and warrant. But that attorney no longer works for that city, and the current attorney doesn't know how to contact him. So he's calling the various courthouses and trying to track the guy down. Fun, huh? Plus, the current city attorney isn't sure where Alex will even need to send the money!!

It's odd this showed up for the apartment, but not when, y' know, Alex was the co-signer for his $35,000 CAR. Indiana, you and the credit bureau do indeed confuse me.

The government of the state of Indiana does not actually exist.

Why do I say this?

Alex calls the courthouse back: They still can't find the specific citation (except for the amount of the fine w/ interest), and can't find the lawyer. So they called the State Police. The ISP can't find a ticket ever issued to that citation #. Neither can any of the local departments or the county sheriff for the county which logged the ticket.

The courthouse is faxing Perimeter confirmation that they don't know why the ticket was issued, who issued it, why he was charged, or what the incident even was. Perimeter is going to override the credit check, and we'll find out more tomorrow.
