bzarcher: A Sylveon from Pokemon floating in the air, wearing a pair of wingtip glasses (Dalek!)

I've officially had it with this damn school, and a new job can't come too soon. And it's a really stupid thing that finally pushed me over the edge.

Our network admin likes to use a packet shaper to 'contain' non-academic traffic that he feels will take up too much bandwidth. He has fucked with stuff I love before. Gunbound, UT2k3/4 (both unplayable online), and for some odd reason M3 have both suffered from this at time to time. Gunbound is, in fact, virtually un-usuable except in break periods because of the shaper. (The shaping is eased during breaks.)

Now, today, I decided at 11am to buy 3 tracks off the iTunes music store, partially because I got 2 free iTMS codes off some pepsis I'd gotten with my pizza last night.

3 tracks.

Not particularly large tracks.

As of 1am, ONE of those tracks has finished downloading. I hadn't even paid attention to iTunes because I assumed it would have finished long ago. I only found this out because I checked it before turning my computer off. Apparently iTunes is being shaped the fuck out of.

A legal, totally legit source of music, and he's quashing it to the point of unusabilty, out of the blue. (I say out of the blue because I know for a fact it was working just fine and dandy less than 2 weeks ago, because my officemates both use it occasionally while in the office to buy tracks.)

This is not the first time he has altered the shaper and not informed anyone, in contrast to policy that he's at least supposed to drop a courtesy mention of anything he's going to be heavily shaping. But he gets away with it because he is considered a department head, and a department head with seniority, at that. (For the record, he and the Instructional Tech directors are the only permanent staff members with more than 10 years in their seats due to the turnovers that have marked the last 6 years. In fact, if we looked at IT staff employees, and counted my time as a student, I believe I would be 3rd or 4th in seniority. How funny is that?)

I am sick of the random bullshit alterations that keep me from using totally legit software for legit purposes, because $name is feeling like being an asshole. I'm sick of the phrase 'Packet Shaper', and if I never hear it again it will be too soon. I'm sick of having to kowtow to this asshole in meetings or in project items, because he's quite frankly a dick. And I have had it with all of this bullshit, and look forward to getting a REAL fucking service provider the DAY I leave here, even if it's just my parents' Wide Open West connection.

Okay. I'm done. I'm calm now.

But I still can't wait to leave this fucking podunk school. Which, for all the good things about it, it totally is.

I had a friend who had an asshole boss like that during a temporary position. He was the only one in a temporary position, right? So you know what he did during meetings? He basically PWNinated this guy, and made him look like a jackass using his own superior computer skillz. You should do that once you find a new job.

The problem is, the guy in my case is in a different department within IT, so there's not much I can do except be paitent. And paitent I will be, oh, yes.

I'm thinking a tazer cleverly rigged to his keyboard would be suitable at this point.

Hmmm. Not a bad idea. And his office is in another building, so if I got in there subtlely, I might never get fingered as a suspect...

But why go to jail for assault, regardless, when I could just sneak in and rig an Etherkiller?
