Oh, christ in a bucket.

Finally got into that server.

COMPLETELY unpatched and with no virus protection, utterly against policy.

You don't want to know what VSE found. No, you really don't.

It's gonna be a fun day.

Why am I able to write this? Because the server was made my priority, so I'm at my desk to reschedule all of my appointments for today, so that I can give the entire afternoon to the beast.

Fetch me...The Bitch-Tamer.

Well. Now you know why the computer'd been locked up.

After saying that? I'd probably kill a hobo to find out what was on there.

You damned well better give a report on what it was by this evening....or else......**cue dramatic chord**

I do.

I have this mental image of that server as an apple crawling with maggots. Worms and suchlike.

"The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of disassociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age."

I have to wonder if this was a deliberate attempt to create a Typhoid Mary box on the part of some hacked off employee.

Story time.

When I was growing up, my best friend lived next door, and his mom had a bunch of apple trees in their backyard.

Once, when I was 8, we saw an apple on the ground that actually starting rolling towards us. Seth and I were fascinated. It was rolling, it was kinda twitching, and was really neat to a couple 8 year old boys.

Finally it got close enough that we could see /why/ it was rolling. The entire apple was pulsing and writhing under the skin. Yellowjackets and wasps had burrowed in and laid eggs, and those eggs had hatched, and the larvae were coming out, along with young and adolescent wasps and jackets.

We ran like hell for the porch door before we got stung.

And that's your story for today.
