...whafuck?

I certainly never ever expected that movie to ever possibly get made.

I assume you've heard of it before then? Because this is the first I've seen of it.

The premise is... well, like I said.. 'whafuck?'

This has gotta be one of the strangest mish-mash of ideas and themes in one movie I've ever seen.

It's a comic book series.

An intensely, perhaps even excessively violent, graphic, and all over the top series that involves things like skullfucking, making a man rip his own penis off, shooting people, eating people, attempting to kill God Himself, and the one and only Saint of Killers.

Ah, that's for the clarification.

Then I stick by my original statement. :>

I thought you were the Holy Goddess.

Now, explain exactly how a "Preacher" movie is a good idea?

From: [identity profile] deza.livejournal.com
I answer to God, too. ;)

It capitalizes on the current popularity of comic-book movies that lure 20-30 somethings hoping to regain a sense of their younger years into the theaters.

Date: 2004-07-30 07:14 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bzarcher.livejournal.com
Ahh, fair enough.

Sure, it will attempt to capitalize, but how do they even think to get things like Jesus De Sade, Herr Starr, or about 3/4 of the printed material into a movie without it being NC-17?

From: [identity profile] deza.livejournal.com
OK, you are assuming that the production company has the desire and/or intention to remian true to the original. *looks at recent comic book movie releases* Where did you get that crazy notion?

Silly boy. You should know better. This is Hollywood you're talking about!

Though I've never read the series (any of them), I thought X-Men, Spider Man and their sequels were very good films.

*looks at The Hulk*

Then again...maybe those're statistical errors.

Ehhh...there's a lot of things to stick into one movie, man. And how will it be edited?

Oh...bloody hell.....This is fucking amazing...please don't let them be bullshitting us....

Morning, sweet.

I don't think they're bullshitting, but I still can't figure out just how they're going to do this and make it work, unless they're going to film several movies at once!

Now the movie I wanna see made ...

Is either The Hitman (Yeah Tommy boy!!!) and The Invisibles...Gods I love violasting sensibilities....

From: [identity profile] bzarcher.livejournal.com
Either of those could be really fun, but I've no idea how they'd make it through the censors or the rating boards. But still!

Thanks for the Leary quote, too. *Kiss*

My reaction to this is much like my reaction when I heard there was going to be a movie of The Watchmen. I'll probably go out and see it, but mostly on principle. The odds of it being both a good movie and being based on the original story are so infinitesimal (sp?) as to not be worth discussing. It's possible to manage one or the other, but almost impossible for a Hollywood studio to do both.

Spike as Custer?

Oh no... Now I'm worried.

Must... Resist... Urge... To... Get... Trench... And... Gun.

First Neo as John Constantine and now this? Maybe Marsden can pull off a good Jessee, but I'm not holding out much hope. I've got to agree, how are they going to pull off some of the psychotic shit that happens in that book, especially dealing with the meat man? (His actual anme escapes me.)

I can't see this as anything but NC-17. And for that matter NC-17 and at least 3 movies. Maybe as many as 6.

Oh. And you're thinking of James Marsters.

James Marsden is the guy who did Cyclops in the recent X-men flicks.

But that's even worse. Can you see Marsden, now known for playing the "mister straight arrow", type of hero as the moral grey area that is the Reverend Custer? I can't. I could see, maybe, Nathan Fallon doing the honors, but not Marsden.

The definition of any good actor is range.

We'll see what happens.

Now, to be fair, there is probably a 1 in 100,000,000 shot that they could get it right.

Maybe.

Kinda.

I wasn't all that fond of the latter stages of the series in comic form... actually, by the end I was pretty damn sickened by it, and wanted to thrash some of the characters within an inch of their lives (or unlives). I shudder to think what Hollywood will do to it.

From: [identity profile] bzarcher.livejournal.com
Things I liked at the end:

1) Cassady's redemption. He might just finally get it right, this time.

2) Featherstone and Hooper finally trying to do something right.

3) Starr finally dying and staying dead, damn it.

4) Tulip's decision to come back.

All things considered, I think the comic hit it's best emotional point with "Until the end of the world", and just rolled downhill from there, getting farther and farther out of control. (Though I'll admit that the ancient history stories were interesting. The Saint's backstory is one of my favorite ones.)

We'll see what happens. I'm certainly not expecting anything good, or even anything vaguely meaningful.

Maybe its just me, but I saw the decline in quality of Preacher coincide with the rise of quality in Hitman. I guess Ennis couldn't concentrate all his mojo into two series at once.

Entirely possible. Plus, honestly, I think he wrote himself into too many corners.

Hahah. Hahahaha. Cyclops. Whoever decided he was an actor anyway?

Maybe he really wanted a real actor for Cyclops but they were all, "No, we need out bad actor quotas! Halle Berry just won't cut it alone!"
