I know you are not a technical person, despite the fact you insisted on transferring to the technical support department.

But I swear to god, if I have to explain that NIC means "Network Interface Card" for the fourth time in as many minutes, because you can't manage to keep the concept of "network card" in your head, it's time for slappins.

We all know Murphy's law, but which is the law that says in effect that in corporations the workers rise to the level of their own incompetence...?

That would be the Peter Principle, my good man!

Actually, this is a slight mis-streamlining of the Peter Principle. Peter actually says that employees rise to the highest level they are competent at, and are then rewarded with a promotion that it one stage above their competence.

Compare with The Dilbert Principle where incompetent employees are systematically moved to where they can do the least damage: management.

Also note that what people call Murphy's Law is properly Finagle's Law (Anything that can go wrong, will), and Murphy's Law is more akin to "If there's more than one way to do a job, and one of those ways will result in disaster, then somebody will do it that way."

Fuck, I'm not a technical person, but I know what that means.

Am I silly for twitching whenever someone says "NIC Card"?

THANK YOU.

And yeah, I twitch a bit too...though explaining why the NIC is a 'card' to her was pretty painful, too.

That is very sad.
Hopefully her incompetence gets her fired/demoted/whathaveyou fast. Unless your employer is like mine- ie: after the 90th day, they literally have to kill someone to get fired from the place. Then there is no hope. :(

It depends how you look at it. On the one hand, most of her job is asset management and POs. Doesn't require intense competency.

She's been with the company for quite a few years, but she made the mistake of assuming that this was a Low Stress job, and I suspect she'll crack soon.
